The disappearance of J Hus
The famous rapper from East London is making a return to the music scene this year. Momodou Lamin Jallow, known professionally as J Hus, had taken time away from the lights, camera and action.
His distance from music and social media marked a hiatus away from his career. Since 2020, J Hus didn't post and was only sighted at several events and sporting competitions as a spectator. However, at the start of 2022 he made a return to Instagram. Fans were excited that he may release his own single or project in this year, instead he used 2022 to build up more hype and excitement surrounding his name.
In 2022, he showed everyone that the artist within him was still breathing. The rap saviour appeared on Burna Boy's new album "Love. Damini". Hus featured on the single "Cloak&Dagger", replicating his original sound and flow. He completed a verse and left his supporters in awe and consequently needing more.
Why was J Hus so special?
The UK music scene has longed for the versatility and vibrancy of J Hus. His sound is very unique and specifically resonates with many black British people brought up in that era. It blends the lightness of Afro-beats and Bashment with the grittier tones of UK rap - Hus' lyrics combine a mixture of pidgin English, patois and even cockney.
Although, J Hus is a superstar and his sound is also respected globally. He has completed a European tour and has attracted the attention of global rap superstars such as Drake. On April 5th, 2019, Drake headlined a show at the O2 arena and surprised UK fans with the appearance of J Hus on stage. Drake is arguably the biggest rapper in the world, so the appearance of J Hus was most notably an honourable feature and further illustrates the significance of Hus.
The most respected unofficial duo- J Hus and MoStack
Montell Daley, recognised professionally as MoStack, is a North London rapper who had the privilege of working with J Hus on several occasions. Mostack rose to fame during a period where J Hus started imposing himself in the UK scene. The North London Rapper had the UK in a choke-hold after his catchy song "Lean&Bop" released 24th may 2015 on YouTube channel SBTV. To date, this video has a surplus of 16 million views, which is a remarkable achievement for a video on this channel.
The two of them first collaborated a few months later with the single, "So Paranoid", which initially release on the rap platform "Link Up TV" on the 23rd of August. This was the beginning of a partnership between MoStack and J Hus, for the next few years they shared hits and success.
Other artists would often feature among them, but it was evident that the sound between these individuals were most complimentary.
