Rapper Stepz steps on Ed Sheeran

A young comedic Tiktoker from London has now left his mark as an artist. Rapper Stepz has defeated music stars Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran to become the most-viewed UK artist account on Tiktok for 2022.
Originially, Stepz became a Tiktok sensation through his unique Point of View sketches. His most famous line is "mandem he's bugging ahlie", which often appears at the end of his sketch. This phrase essentially translates to "guys, isn't he going crazy?" and has become popular among younger people. These types of videos have inspired other Tiktokers to use POV as a unique selling point for their content, although it's evident that no one can replace the original Stepz at the top.
Some may argue that Stepz' comedic sketches are the reason for his fame, however he'd wish his music was the reason.
"I would use my comedy to promote my music as well. So most people think that I was a comedian before music, but the comedy was literally just to get my music more out there," he says.
Although, he understands how his comedic skills may give him an edge against other current rappers.
"A lot of rappers in the UK are just talking about how many guys they've done this and that to, but I don't have to put an image on myself as if I'm someone that I'm not, because I do comedy," he adds.
He was previously named Tiktok’s breakout artist of the summer after his song 'Cramp Dat', which samples Soulja Boy’s 2007 hit 'Crank That', went viral on the platform. His most recent single 'Pacman', which dropped on multiple streaming platforms on November the 18th gained similar success. These two singles helps Stepz to achieve top spot in the social media giant’s annual Year On TikTok report, which reviews the trends and creators of the past year. The Year on TikTok annual review is based on internal research and trends analysis conducted from January to October 2022, the social media platform said.
Meanwhile Ed Sheeran – who topped the list last year after launching three exclusive single previews from his album Equals – has dropped into third place. Overtaking Ed Sheeran would be a great achievement for any UK artist, therefore it's groundbreaking for an upcoming artist. This epitomizes the fantastic position Stepz is in leading into the New Year.
