Levi Amantchi became top joint goalscorer in the National League South after scoring his 11th league goal for Maidstone United to defeat Chelmsford City 1-0 at the Melbourne Community Stadium.
Chelmsford’s unbeaten eight league games was defeated as they struggled to deal with the skill and strength of inform Levi Amantchi.
Freddie Hockey had an opportunity in the 17th minute to take the lead for the Clarets, but he failed to make connection with the ball in front of an open goal.
Levi Amantchi capitalised in the 22nd minute with trickery past the Maidstone defence and a low driven shot into the bottom corner of the goal.
Chelmsford battled throughout the match and missed a good opportunity to come back with a succession of headed misses in the 29th minute and the 31st minute.
At the return of half-time the noise of The Stones support grew as they uplifted Maidstone’s defence to maintain their one goal lead.
Maidstone’s manager George Elokobi showed his experience of the game as he heavily instructed the defence to remain compact all the way into additional time.
Levi Amantchi’s first half goal has lifted Maidstone to second in the National League South, a position closer to returning back to the National League.
